This information is provided to help acquaint patients' family members and friends with Baptist Hospital East's facilities and visiting hours.

Gift Shop
Located on the hospital's first floor off the discharge lobby, the Gift Shop carries flowers, candy, books, magazines, unique gifts, postage stamps and personal care items. It is staffed by hospital volunteers Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. MasterCard and VISA are accepted. eCards
Send a patient an electronic greeting card (eCard) with your own personal message. Get Well, Happy Birthday, Thinking of You and cards of Congratulations are available. Cards are printed in color and personally delivered to your loved one by hospital volunteers. Click here to send an eCard to a patient.

Hotel accommodations
Several area motels offer special rates to Baptist East patients and their families. Some private patient rooms are equipped with chairs that fold out for sleep. In addition, the hospital has three sleep rooms in the Intensive Care Unit for the families of patients who are in critical condition. These rooms, which sleep two people each, are for one or two nights and may be booked through ICU.

Baptist East forwards all mail received for patients after they are discharged to their homes.

Meals
Visitors are welcome to eat in the hospital's Coffee Shop located on the first floor off the discharge lobby or in the cafeteria on the second floor. The Coffee Shop is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m.-9 p.m. The cafeteria is open seven days a week at the following times:

Breakfast	6:15-10 a.m.
Lunch	11 a.m.-1:30 p.m.
Break	2-3 p.m.
Dinner	4-7 p.m.
Break/Snacks	9-11 p.m.
Third Shift Dinner	1:30-3:30 a.m.

The cafeteria accepts Visa and MasterCard. A Republic Bank money machine is available in the hallway outside the cafeteria.

Money machine
A MAC money machine is located on the first floor of the hospital off the main lobby. The machine dispenses cash but does not accept deposits. Transactions for customers of Republic Bank are free.

Parking
Visitor parking is located in lots 1, 2, 3 and 4. (See campus map for more details.)

Pastoral care
Chaplains are available to provide support, guidance and counsel to patients and their families Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. After 4:30 p.m., a chaplain is on call for emergencies. If you would like a visit from a chaplain, call the Pastoral Services Office at (502) 897-8804. If the request is urgent, ask the nurse to contact the chaplain for you.

Visitors are also welcome to attend 30-minute worship services conducted every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel located off the main lobby on the first floor of the Behavioral Health and Rehabilitation Wing.

Republic Bank
Republic Bank has a branch office on the first floor of the Doctors Office Building, 3950 Kresge Way. The branch is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Friday, 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. To reach the branch office, call 897-3800. Free notary services are available.

Smoking areas
Smoking is not allowed in any part of the hospital, including the cafeteria, coffee shop, restrooms, halls and stairwells. Visitors are asked to smoke only in four designated smoking areas outside the hospital building. These areas are equipped with benches and receptacles for your convenience:

• Smoking shelter located at the rear of the hospital building;
• Beside the Emergency Department's admitting entrance;
• Under the Labor and Delivery overhang across the two-lane drive from the Patient Discharge area; and
• Outside the employee parking garage.

By Oct. 1, 2007, Baptist East's entire St. Matthews campus will be smoke-free, including all physician office buildings. The hospital gift shop will carry nicotine-replacement products for the convenience of families and visitors who are not able to smoke while at the hospital or physician offices, including those at 4001, 4003, 3950, 3900 and 4002 Kresge Way.

Telephones
All patient rooms at Baptist East are equipped with telephones that can be dialed directly from outside the hospital. Call the hospital's Information Desk at (502) 897-8171 to get the direct number. To make sure that our patients get adequate rest, patients cannot receive incoming calls between 9 p.m.-7 a.m.; however, patients can make outgoing calls 24 hours a day.

Visiting hours
General visiting hours are 9 a.m.-8:30 p.m. daily. Please limit visitors to no more than two at a time and stay only for a short while. Too much company can be very tiring after surgery or an illness. For their own protection, children under 12 should get permission from the nurse before visiting. Visitors are restricted in certain units as follows:

• Intensive Care
  Visiting is based on individual patient needs. Ask the nurse for details.
  
  
• Coronary Care
  Visiting is based on individual patient needs. Ask your nurse for details.
  
  
• Mother/Baby
  Any healthy adult can visit the mother's room during regular visiting hours. Brothers and sisters must be escorted by an adult and will be screened for illness.
  
  
• Psychiatry
  Adult Crisis Management Unit, daily, 7-8 p.m.; Gero-Psychiatry Unit, daily, 1-8 p.m.
  
  
• Chemical Dependency
  Sunday, 3-5 p.m.; additional visiting hours after educational sessions, 12-step meetings and family workshops on Thursdays and Saturdays.
