'Eat Smart, Move It and Lose It' seminar set June 24

Even a whipped cream diet will work for a while.

“Everything works a little and for a while,” said Sally Squires, award-winning Washington Post nutrition columnist. “But the question is what will work for you long-term – small, sustainable changes that will work for a lifetime.”

Squires will bring her “Eat Smart, Move It and Lose It” positive message of lifetime weight loss to Baptist Hospital East on Saturday, June 24, headlining a half-day seminar.

The 8 a.m.-1 p.m. seminar will begin in Baptist East’s second-floor auditorium, then move to the nearby Baptist East/Milestone Wellness Center for free health screenings.

Registration is from 8:30-9 a.m. Cost is $15 that includes continental breakfast from Whole Foods and a box lunch. Deadline for paid registration is Friday, June 16.

In her talk, the Lean Plate Club columnist will address ways for people to take back control of their kitchens and craft a weight loss plan that fits their lifestyle.

“Everybody can do this, but it isn’t a one-time diet, or that you can never eat chocolate or French fries again,” she said.

Building on that topic, Beth RoBards, assistant fitness director at the Baptist East/Milestone Wellness Center, will demonstrate how movement can accelerate – and accentuate – your fitness program.

Discover how to glean health news you can use with valuable tips from Baptist Medical Associates’ Stephanie McCardle, M.D., addressing “Health Headlines: Separating Fact from Fiction.”

Besides helpful hints on eating right and exercise, participants will enjoy health screenings, giveaways, door prizes and a free one-week pass to the Baptist East/Milestone Wellness Center.

Squires will also sign copies of her just-released book, “Secrets of the Lean Plate Club: A Simple, Step-By-Step Program to Help You Shed Pounds and Keep Them Off for Good.”

Tailor the day with its agenda of choices designed to introduce you to a healthier lifestyle. Gather for an optional 8-8:40 a.m. warm-up and stretch led by a Wellness Center fitness specialist. After lunch, you’re invited to visit the Wellness Center from 1-3 p.m. for free screenings.
