Learn 'Smart Caregiving for Your Aging Parents'
Members of the "sandwich generation" find themselves caught between the pressing needs of an aging parent and the personal demands of a spouse, children and career. Nearly one in four U.S. households, or 22.4 million people, now contain members of this overloaded generation.
To assist those who face this challenge, the Welcome to Wellness health series offers "Smart Caregiving for Your Aging Parents" at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19 in the Baptist East/ Milestone Wellness Center.
This free talk will feature three speakers focusing on the emotional, physical and financial aspects of caring for aging parents.
The presentation will begin with Baptist East Home Health Agency Director Bernie Hollkamp, who will discuss the financial needs and services available for caregivers.
Next, Physical Therapist Sonia Hood from the Baptist Hospital East Rehabilitation Unit will address the physical aspects of caregiving, focusing on safe body mechanics.
To conclude, Baptist East Center for Behavioral Health Family Therapist Dawn Pendleton will delve into the emotional aspects of providing care for aging parents. This will include tips on how to care for both your parent and yourself emotionally throughout the caregiving process.
