Babysitting class set July 6

Youngsters 12 years of age and older looking for opportunities to fill the summer months are invited to learn all about babysitting by taking a class offered by Baptist Hospital East.

The babysitting class will be from 9 a.m.-3:15 p.m. Friday, July 6 in Room 2C of the second-floor Education Center of Baptist East, 4000 Kresge Way.

Chris Summerfield, R.N., Women’s Health community educator at Baptist East, will teach students about basic first aid, safety issues and feeding, diapering and bathing.

Stacy Mattingly, director of the Baptist East Center for Child Development, will focus on caring for children of different ages. Students will also spend some time at the Center for Child Development with young children.

“This course is designed to help future sitters gain the confidence needed to do the job well and also feel good about what they’re doing,” Summerfield said.

Cost of the class is $15, which includes lunch, supplies and materials. Participants may wish to bring money to purchase snacks during the day. Class size is limited.

Advance registration is required and may be made by calling the Baptist Hospital East Information Center at (502) 897-8131.
