Walking Club to kick off new year Feb. 15

Members of the Baptist Hospital East Walking Club will officially notch their first miles of the new year during the 9-11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15 kickoff at Oxmoor Center.

This year marks the 18th anniversary of the Baptist Hospital East Walking Club. At the kickoff, walking-related contests will be held at several booths, with prizes awarded to the winners. Healthcare professionals from Baptist Hospital East will conduct blood pressure and other health screenings. The kickoff will also feature health information booths, prizes and displays from Oxmoor merchants.

Members will also learn about club benefits offered at Oxmoor, plus at the Baptist East/Milestone Wellness Center, located nearby at 750 Cypress Station Drive. New memberships will be taken during the kickoff.

The Walking Club is open to anyone in the community, age 16 and older. Cost of a lifetime membership in the Walking Club is $5 per person. Members benefit from regular exercise and camaraderie derived from walking in Oxmoor's safe, climate-controlled environment. Other benefits include: free monthly health programs and a bi-monthly newsletter; a membership identification nametag/mileage log; a free club T-shirt, a mileage map of Oxmoor Center; discount listings from various Oxmoor merchants; and tips for special stretching exercises recommended before and after walks.
