The Radiation Oncologist and Treatment Team

Radiation oncologists are doctors who have advanced training and experience in treating cancer patients with radiation. During your first visit to The Radiation Center, you will meet your radiation oncologist. It is his or her job to determine how much and what kind of radiation will be most effective for you. The radiation oncologist heads a team of healthcare professionals which also includes:

  • Radiation physicist who makes sure the equipment is working properly and is delivering the right dose of radiation,
  • Dosimetrist who helps develop your treatment plan and performs calculations to carry out the radiation dose prescription, and
  • Radiation therapy technologist or radiation therapist who actually delivers your treatments

You will meet most of the members of the treatment team during your visits to the center.

For more information about the services provided at the Radiation Center, call (502) 897-8163. The Radiation Center is located in the 4003 Building across the street from the hospital.
