Painful periods If you suffer from painful periods, try these helpful hints:
- Eat a diet rich in protein and vitamins
- Take a hot bath
- Get extra rest
- Exercise
- Place heating pad on abdomen or back
- If tampons are uncomfortable, try a different brand, or pads
- Take Ibuprofen or acetaminophen
- Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes
- Avoid caffeine, nicotine and other stimulants
- Massage lower back
- Try relaxation techniques such as slow, controlled breathing, meditating or listening to calming music. This provides relief from fatigue and breaks the pain/stress cycle.
- Use diversions such as favorite pastimes and hobbies to distract your mind and lower your pain perception.
