Painful periods

If you suffer from painful periods, try these helpful hints:
  • Eat a diet rich in protein and vitamins
  • Take a hot bath
  • Get extra rest
  • Exercise
  • Place heating pad on abdomen or back
  • If tampons are uncomfortable, try a different brand, or pads
  • Take Ibuprofen or acetaminophen
  • Wear loose-fitting, comfortable clothes
  • Avoid caffeine, nicotine and other stimulants
  • Massage lower back
  • Try relaxation techniques such as slow, controlled breathing, meditating or listening to calming music.  This provides relief from fatigue and breaks the pain/stress cycle.
  • Use diversions such as favorite pastimes and hobbies to distract your mind and lower your pain perception.
