Learn about the health benefits of Tai Chi for cancer patients, those with chronic illness
The graceful, dance-like movements of Taoist Tai Chi can help reduce stress, relieve chronic pain and improve sleep quality.
Those health benefits are important to many, including cancer patients or those with a chronic illness who may be seeking a gentle way to exercise and keep up their strength. A free talk, “Holistic Health: The Benefits of Taoist Tai Chi,” will be offered at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 15 in the Baptist Hospital East second-floor Education Center.
Learn about the health benefits of Taoist Tai Chi from representatives of the Kentucky branch of the Taoist Tai Chi Society of the USA.
Program participants will hear about the basics of Tai Chi; health benefits that include improved circulation, balance and posture and increased strength and flexibility; and how Tai Chi can help with holistic health.
Following the discussion, attendees can observe and participate in a demonstration. Comfortable clothing is recommended.
Space is limited, so registration is required. For more information, or to register, call or e-mail the Baptist Hospital East Information Center at (502) 897-8131 or BHEInfoCenter@bhsi.com.
Originally developed in China as a form of self defense, tai chi is a gentle form of exercise and stretching that has existed for some 2,000 years. To do tai chi, a series of postures or movements are performed in a slow, graceful manner. Each posture flows into the next without pausing. These rhythmic patterns of movement are coordinated with breathing. Anyone can practice tai chi, as it emphasizes technique over strength. | |
