Survive and Thrive breast cancer support group

Survive and Thrive provides women with information, interaction, support and encouragement throughout their treatment and recovery. Led by specially-trained professionals, each session allows women to share their experiences as they learn new skills to Survive and Thrive as breast cancer survivors.

Survive and Thrive is open to women newly-diagnosed with breast cancer up to 18 months after diagnosis. Participants will develop coping strategies to take them from surviving cancer, along the path to thriving, as they share their stories and offer support to others.

Survive and Thrive meets for eight sessions beginning in March and August in the Cancer Resource Center. Participation is limited to 12 members for each session. There is no charge for the group.

Healing Choices breast cancer support group

Healing Choices provides information, interaction, support and encouragement for women with recurrent or metastatic breast cancer. Participants develop coping strategies through journaling, meditation, stress management, art therapy and other therapies. Wellness and fitness programs, offered by the Baptist East/Milestone Wellness Center, are also available.

Healing Choices has two sessions each year, which meet weekly in the Baptist East Education Center. Participation is limited to eight members for each session. There is no charge for the group. Healing Choices is open to women who have been diagnosed with recurrent or metastatic breast cancer in the past year.

After completing Healing Choices, women have the option to attend an additional series, Living Beyond.

Both Healing Choices and Survive and Thrive are supported by grants from the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation Inc., Louisville affiliate.

Man to Man prostate cancer support group

The American Cancer Society's Man to Man - Louisville support group for prostate cancer survivors offers support and information to men living with prostate cancer. Meetings are held the second Saturday of the month September through May at 10 a.m. on the second floor of the hospital's Education Center. Each meeting includes a presentation on some aspect of prostate cancer by a physician or other health care professional. After the presentation, men can join in a "rap" session which allows them to share coping strategies and concerns. Wives are welcome to attend the information session and afterward, have the opportunity to meet with each other for a session of their own. Both sessions are led by oncology nurses.
