Diabetes services

Baptist Hospital East has had a long-running tradition of offering quality services to persons with diabetes. The Baptist East program is recognized for quality by the American Diabetes Association.

Since 1999, the hospital's diabetes self-management program has maintained Education Recognition by the American Diabetes Association. The award recognizes that Baptist East's diabetes self-management program meets or exceeds all national standards for such programs, offering patients a high-quality education to develop and improve their self-care skills.

Baptist Hospital East and the Wellness Center have launched a pre-diabetes medical fitness program dubbed NEED – Nutrition, Exercise and Education to Deter Diabetes. Physician referral is required to join. The goal of NEED is to delay or prevent the onset of Type 2 diabetes for those already diagnosed with metabolic syndrome which is characterized by extra weight around the waistline.
