Student nurses can get an early taste of worklife and culture at Baptist Hospital East through the Nurse Extern program, offered each summer to selected senior nursing students.

New graduates receive a minimum of six weeks on a nursing unit with a preceptor.

Those new to nursing -- and new to Baptist East -- attend an extensive orientation program designed to fully acquaint them with policies, practices and procedures at Baptist East. 

All new nursing employees are provided with an individualized clinical orientation under the direction of a seasoned preceptor.

Educational assistance may be available for some student nurses through the hospital's Knowledge Program.
