The Nurse Extern Program at Baptist Hospital East offers an exciting and challenging opportunity for senior-level nursing students to apply knowledge and skills gained in the classroom to the real-world practice of nursing.
Who can apply?
Applicants who are registering for their last year (senior year) in an accredited school of nursing.
Program Dates
This 10-week program is scheduled May 19-July 25, 2008.
What can I gain from this program?
You will have an opportunity to receive one-on-one mentoring by an experienced RN preceptor.
What are the requirements?
The applicant must agree to employment with Baptist East equivalent to a minimum of one weekend shift per month through the completion of school.
The applicant must have earned a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) as evidenced by an official transcript.
The applicant must submit the following:
- An official transcript from the school.
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty, one of which should be from an instructor from the current school year.
- A completed Baptist East application for employment for external candidates.
- An internal application must be completed for current Baptist East employees.
Those chosen as externs will be guaranteed a nursing assistant position following completion of the program, but no guarantee of the same unit and same shift for current employees.
Requirements for both external and internal candidates
All candidates accepted into the Baptist East Nurse Extern Program are required to complete the Initial Competency Skill Assessment/Validation with a signature of faculty by Friday, April 25, 2008.
