Leadership College

Baptist Hospital East has a long-standing commitment to building and supporting its leaders.

Baptist East realizes that anyone going from staff to a leadership position needs the management tools and information to help them succeed in that role.

In 2001 the on-going Leadership Education was formalized into what is now known as the Baptist East Leadership College. The curriculum is formatted in phases to provide a pathway of continuous growth beginning with a new leader role and continuing through the skills for a seasoned leader.

Phase I of the college teaches basic “survival” skills in management development. The courses are embedded in the Baptist East Pillar Philosophy and allow the new leader to understand how Baptist East leads through the Pillars of Service, Growth, Finance, People and Quality.

Phase II is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the core management tools such as understanding personality types, identifying generational issues, situational leadership, and emotional intelligence.

The second part of Phase II allows particpants to enhance some of the information obtained in the core skills by integrating models of conflict resolution, interviewing techniques, employee on-boarding and retention, team performance, productivity, and managing stress.

Phase III is the enrichment phase and provides on-going learning and development. The enrichment phase is a flexible curriculum grounded in the strategic initiates that will drive the success of Baptist East.

Another opportunity for management education is e-learning. Baptist East is fortunate to have access through Baptist Healthcare System Inc. to the Employee Management Training (EMT). This is an online opportunity to access several different topics that pertain to management and can be accessed either at work or at home.

In 2005, Baptist East began opening the Leadership College to those outstanding employees who might fill leadership roles in the future. There are many avenues in which potential leaders participate on committees throughout Baptist East. These employees are the leaders of the future and we want to allow them the opportunity for insight into the Leadership arena. It is crucial we begin planning and cultivating those who have a passion for leadership.
