With the high expectations of employees at Baptist Hospital East come rewards. At Baptist East, they come in two forms: instant gratification (otherwise known as WOW cards or Wowees) and public recognition for high-achievers -- called Champions and Heroes.

From the year's pool of Champions is chosen the Employee of the Year who receives a cash and travel voucher prize. Both Champions and Heroes are recognized at the annual Employee Service Awards banquet.

At the banquet, employees with five, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and more years of service are honored with a pin and their choice of gift. Gift selections range from jewelry to crystal, electronics to outdoor gear.

Baptist East is the only hospital in Louisville with a success sharing program for employees. The Baptist East program is called Piece of the Pie. It has three major components: hitting a budget target, meeting or exceeding certain patient satisfaction levels, and a third component. Tying patient satisfaction to success sharing keeps all eyes on the prize -- and on improving patient care. Baptist East benchmarks with others in the industry to constantly try to improve.

Other incentives include:

• Employees at Baptist East receive a 35 percent discount in the hospital cafeteria.
• A free Christmas dinner is served in the cafeteria for all employees. Members of the management team serve hot and cold appetizers to those waiting in line while those in the cafeteria are serenaded by a employee choir. The management team is also treated to a Christmas breakfast.
• A Gift Shop discount is given to each employee during his/her birthday month.
• Fun, games, prizes and great food are hallmarks of the Annual Hospital Week Picnic. Department teams vie for honors in games such as the scrub scramble, while the leadership team members square off in a mobility scooter race.
• A comprehensive benefits plan is also offered. 
• Recruitment bonuses are available. Employees who recruit personnel for specified key positions can receive up to $500 in cash incentives. Key positions change periodically based on demand. Other requirements are available in the Human Resources Department.
• Thanksgiving turkeys and hams are distributed to Baptist East employees each year. All turkeys and hams not picked up by employees are given to charity.
