Part of Baptist Hospital East's PRIDE initiative is the Champions and Heroes program.
Each month, at the department head meeting, up to four individuals (employees, volunteers and physicians) are honored for exemplary patient care, service to others or to the community, chosen from nominations and those who've collected 25 WOW cards.
The Champions and Heroes receive a goodie bag chockfull of useful, but fun, items.
A large sheet cake and a banner to post is given to the Department of the Month, which may be nominated by employees or physicians. Many times the departments are nominated by physicians – and the physicians attend to speak at the presentation.
Champions are those who have performed extraordinary service for patients -- from finding and delivering a bed to a patient without one, to stopping by on the eve of a holiday to give care and much-needed supplies.
Baptist East also honors those who contribute much to the community. The hospital's mission is to enhance the health of the people and communities we serve. We pay tribute to those living out this mission, those who take compassion beyond the bedside. We've honored employees for their missionary work in Third World nations, for helping out closer to home with such groups as the Girl Scouts and Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and many for acting as Good Samaritans in assisting accident victims. We call them Heroes.
