Vascular disease is a problem which occurs in your circulatory system -- veins and arteries that keep blood flowing through the body. Common types of vascular problems in veins (called venous disease) are blood clots and varicose veins. Problems which occur in arteries (called arterial disease) are usually caused by atherosclerosis or hardening of the arteries. Atherosclerosis isn't limited to the coronary arteries that supply blood to the heart. It can occur anywhere in the body, including the legs, neck and abdominal aorta.
