Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding
Through a series of small incisions in the abdomen, the FDA-approved LAP-BAND Adjustable Gastric Banding System is placed around the top of the stomach to create a smaller stomach pouch and secured in place. This results in the ability to control hunger and achieve a feeling of fullness. The LAP-BAND is adjustable, meaning the inflatable band can be tightened or loosened to help the patient reduce food intake. The adjustment can be made in the physician office, following weight loss surgery, and does not require a hospital visit.
The surgery is performed as an outpatient or same-day surgery. A hospital stay of less than 24 hours can be expected.
