Center for pain management

 

The Center for Pain Management at Baptist East specializes not only in treating pain but in helping individuals play an active role in their own pain management. Through various treatment methods, including anesthesia intervention, the Center for Pain Management gives individuals the confidence and independence needed to reduce their pain and take control of their lives.

Types of pain problems treated
The Center for Pain Management provides a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to helping adults learn to manage pain. The staff specializes in unique pain problems and offers the latest in pain treatment methods and individualized counseling for problems such as:

  • back and neck pain
  • shingles pain
  • reflex sympathetic dystrophy
  • neuropathic pain
  • auto accident injuries
  • cancer pain
  • chronic or recurring pain


The center is also available to assist hospitalized patients with pain after surgery and inform them about pain control options.

Treatments offered
The Center for Pain Management assesses each unique pain problem and offers an interdisciplinary treatment program. Most services are provided on an outpatient basis and include expertise in the following areas:

  • Therapeutic nerve blocks, such as epidural blocks or trigger point injections using medication or other agents to break the cycle of pain.
  • Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) to block pain signals from being transmitted to the brain.
  • Nutritional counseling by registered dietitians
  • Occupational therapy to assist with job simplification, job site analysis and daily activity adaptation.
  • Pastoral counseling


The treatment team
The Center for Pain Management's treatment team consists of highly skilled professionals providing services within their areas of expertise.

Medical care is provided by a board-certified anesthesiologist with special training and certification in pain management techniques.

Referral
Referrals by physicians or other health care professionals are preferred to ensure availability of previous medical history.
