Wound Care Center receives Center of Excellence honor

For the second consecutive year, the Center has been honored by Diversified Clinical Services – this time with the Robert A. Warriner Center of Excellence Award. Centers receive this honor for achieving success in meeting or exceeding certain quality standards for patient healing plus patient satisfaction at 91 percent or above.

The Baptist Health Louisville Center achieved a 96 percent healing rate, which bests national benchmarks. Center patients heal typically heal in 27 days (that’s the median).

The Center of Excellence Award is a testament to the care provided by the physicians and staff at the Baptist Louisville Wound Care Center.

The Wound Care Center, opened in January 2009, provides comprehensive wound care for people who suffer from non-healing wounds. If not treated, wounds can lead to amputation.

The center provides full-time wound care, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, where the patient is placed in a pressurized chamber and breathes 100 percent oxygen. This increases oxygen in the blood stream and enhances the healing process. Since the Center opened, more than 3,600 hyperbaric treatments have been given.

A chronic or hard-to-heal wound is one that does not respond to normal medical care within 30 days. The variety and complexity of chronic wounds requires specialized care. Eight million Americans suffer from chronic wounds. Associated with inadequate circulation, poorly functioning veins, and immobility, non-healing wounds occur most frequently in the elderly and in people with diabetes and other diseases — groups that are sharply rising as the nation ages and chronic diseases increase.
