Weight-loss surgery available at Baptist East



Baptist Hospital East has been named an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence®.

The Center of Excellence designation recognizes surgical programs with a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in bariatric (weight-loss) surgery. All bariatric surgeries performed at Baptist East are minimally-invasive, contributing to favorable outcomes.

These procedures have helped many seriously overweight individuals achieve and maintain significant long-term weight loss. Health problems associated with excess weight such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea and joint pain usually improve after surgery.

Surgeries are performed as an outpatient or same-day surgery. A hospital stay of less than 24 hours can be expected. According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), candidacy for weight-loss surgery is based on several factors including BMI, or body mass index. To calculate your BMI, use our calculator.

The NIH states that being more than 20 percent overweight is a serious health risk. Obesity-related medical conditions are linked to more than 300,000 deaths each year, only after smoking-related deaths.

Seminars are at 6:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted) at Baptist Hospital East’s Education Center (Classrooms 2A and B). Pre-registration is required.
