Service to illuminate 'Light in the Darkness' for cancer survivors, families - Nov. 8
Finding “Light in the Darkness” as a message of hope is the theme of an upcoming ceremony honoring two special groups of cancer survivors.
The non-denominational blessing ceremony will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8 in the Baptist Hospital East second-floor auditorium. The ceremony is for survivors who have battled cancer, and the loved ones of others who lost their fight.
Folk singer and minister John Gage will lead the ceremony.
Gage, whose mother died of cancer, will offer messages of hope and faith through his music. “From a holistic perspective, music is another way of treating the whole person,” Gage said.
The long-time performer participates in the arts and healing initiative with the Kentucky Center for the Arts, sometimes playing the guitar and singing for patients.
“Music is foremost for feeling, for touching hearts,” he added.
Baptist East Chaplains JoAnne Morris Soler will confer a blessing on the participants, who will receive a small remembrance to take home.
Following the service will be a reception, allowing time to re-establish connections with caregiving staff and fellow survivors.
Seating is limited. For more information, or reservations, call the Baptist Hospital East Information Center by Nov. 4 at (502) 897-8131.
