Man to Man learns about high intensity focused ultrasound treatment for prostate cancer - Nov. 14
The American Cancer Society Man to Man-Louisville prostate cancer support group will learn about “High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) Treatment for Prostate Cancer” at its next meeting,
10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14.
Urologist John Jurige, MD, will explain HIFU, a procedure used to kill prostate cancer cells by targeting cancerous tissue using heat while sparing nearby healthy tissue. The talk will begin in the Baptist Hospital East Education center, classrooms A and B, 4000 Kresge Way.
Man to Man meets the second Saturday of the month from 10 a.m.-noon with a break from September to May. The meeting provides information about prostate cancer, as well as treatment options. It is also a chance for men to share their experience and concerns with other men. Sessions begin with an educational lecture, followed by an informal group discussion. A group for spouses and significant others is conducted as a parallel session.
The support group, sponsored by Baptist Hospital East and the American Cancer Society, is free. For more information, call the Baptist East Information Center at (502) 897-8131.
