Body Wellness classes offered Monday, Wednesday, Friday in October

Fri, Oct 29, 2010 10 a.m.

Body Wellness, a physical fitness program for adults who have lost muscle tone and flexibility or for persons who are recuperating, is a continuous program offered at the Baptist East/Milestone Wellness Center, 750 Cypress Station Drive, each Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. with another class from 10:45-11:30 a.m.

Slacks, comfortable shoes and socks are the recommended dress for the program.

Exercise is an important part of strength recovery. According to the American Council on Exercise, you can lose up to a half a pound of muscle every year after age 25. The loss of muscle tissue can make you weaker and will slow down your metabolism. Strength training increases your metabolic rate, improves balance and increases bone density.

Flexibility also plays a key role in the rehabilitation process and is an important preventative measure. A proper stretching program can increase flexibility around a joint, reducing frequency and intensity of intensity of injuries.

The class fee is free to Wellness Center members. Non-members can pay $25 for five visits or $50 for 10 visits.

For more information, call the Wellness Center at (502) 896-3900, ext. 114.
