Nurse extern program
The Nurse Extern Program at Baptist Health Louisville offers an exciting and challenging opportunity for senior-level nursing students to apply knowledge and skills gained in the classroom to the real-world practice of nursing.
Who can apply?
Applicants who are registering for their last year (senior status) in an accredited school of nursing.
This 10-week program is scheduled May 14-July 20, 2012.
What can I gain from this program?
You will have an opportunity to receive one-on-one mentoring by an experienced RN preceptor.
What are the requirements?
The applicant must agree to employment with Baptist Health Louisville equivalent to a minimum of one weekend shift per month through the completion of school.
The applicant must have earned a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) as evidenced by an official transcript.
The applicant must submit the following:
- An official transcript from the school.
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty, one of which should be from an instructor from the current school year. If interested in a critical care area, a third letter of reference from a clinical instructor must be submitted.
- A completed Baptist Louisville application for employment for external candidates and internal application must be completed for current Baptist Health Louisville employees. Applications go online for the extern program in March.
- Those chosen as externs will be guaranteed a nursing assistant position following completion of the program, but no guarantee of the same unit and same shift for current employees.
All candidates accepted into the Baptist Health Louisville Nurse Extern Program are required to complete the Initial Competency Skill Assessment/Validation with a signature of faculty by Friday, April 23, 2010.
