Volunteer programs
Adult Program
Baptist East has over 350 adult volunteers who contribute more than 60,000 hours to the hospital each year. We are very fortunate to have such a large group of volunteers, who give their time to our hospital and other areas in our community. Volunteers staff the Information Desk, deliver flowers, newspapers, magazines, and electronic greeting cards (eCards) to patients; operate the hospital Gift Shop; and work in nursing units and other hospital departments.
In addition to contributing their time, many Volunteers are members of the Baptist East Auxiliary. Auxiliary members hold various events to raise money for the hospital. Those funds along with proceeds from the hospital's Gift Shop are donated back to the hospital. Funds are used to purchase new medical equipment, help meet patients' emergency needs, and support projects such as the making of pillows for recovering surgery patients. The Baptist East Auxiliary has donated the over $765,000 to the Baptist East Foundation for construction on the new Park Tower.

College Student Program
We realize that many college students are pursuing degrees in the healthcare field and we want to
be able to provide them with the opportunity to experience working in hospital. We offer
programs for college students, where they can volunteer one or two days a week based on the
availability of their chosen field. Students must be 18 years of age and graduated from high school
to participate in this program. Applications for this program are available online. Click here to
complete an application. After submission of your application, students will receive an email with
further information about the program and opportunities available. An interview will be set up to discuss the field of study and what position and schedule would be the best match. All new
volunteers must complete the pre-volunteer requirements including a TB test, health screening
record, criminal records check and completion of the hospital orientation program, which will be
set up by the Volunteer Department.
Junior Volunteer Program
Baptist East offers a Junior Student Volunteer program for teens ages 14 through 18 in the Fall, Spring and Summer. Our program has proven to be an excellent opportunity for students, who are considering a career in health care. The Junior Student Volunteers contribute many volunteer hours by helping out in nursing units, clinical and service areas, our onsite daycare, and many other areas of the hospital. The program provides students with the experience of working in a hospital, as well as a good reference for their first jobs.
Each session has a specific starting date and generally lasts for 7 to 8 weeks. All new Junior Student Volunteers must be able to attend an Orientation Session, which is scheduled the week before the session begins. Applications are available on line and you can Click here to complete an application. Upon submission of an application, you will receive an email indicating which session you will be eligible to participate in. We have one of the largest programs in the state, so depending on the number of applicants, we must limit the number of students accepted into each program. Students must commit to volunteering for at least six weeks of the session. Students will be contacted to discuss their application and possibly set up an interview. During the interview, we will discuss the position and schedule which would be the best match. All new volunteers must complete the pre-volunteer requirements including a TB test, health screening record, and completion of the hospital orientation program, which will be set up by the Volunteer Director.
